Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do parents receive support in teaching their children about the faith?

A: The Coordinator includes strategies and prayers in the program’s online platform (currently Google classroom). There are also courses offered by the Archdiocese of New York.

Please let her know if there is a specific area you would like to learn more about.

Q: Does my child need to attend religious education classes every year from 1st to 8th grade?

A: Yes, your child should attend classes as part of their faith formation. Every year we learn and grow, and our faith is an essential part of that growth.

Q: When do classes start?

A: Classes start within a week of the school district starting its school year.

Q: How often does class meet and how long is the class?

A: We meet once a week on Sunday at 10 am for 1 hour.

Q: How many classes are there in a year?
A: There should be 30 religious education classes per school year. (about 30 hours per year)

Q: How do I and my child access the online platform?

A: When you complete the registration form, the coordinator will add you to the online platform and/ or send you a link to join the class.

Q: When does my child receive the sacrament of First Communion?

A: Your child can receive the sacrament of First Communion as early as 2nd grade.

Q: When does my child receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation?

A: Your child can receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation as early as 1st grade (age of 7).

Q: How long is the Confirmation preparation program and when does it start?

A: Confirmation preparation starts in 7th grade and lasts for 2 years. Your child will receive the sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of 8th grade.

Q: What do I do if I missed the registration window?

A: Contact the Coordinator as soon as possible and schedule a meeting.

Q: What do I do if my child is ‘missing sacraments’ (has not received one or more of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Communion) by second grade?

A: Contact the Coordinator and let her know which sacraments you wish your child to receive so the best process for preparation can be determined and classes organized.

Q: Are there classes over the summer?

A: Only if your child has missed one or more years of religious education. Talk with the Coordinator and she will arrange meeting times to support you and your family via zoom.

Q: What if my child is past 7th grade and has not had Religious Education in some time or ever or has not been confirmed by 8th grade?

A: Talk with the Coordinator and she will determine and explain if your child is a candidate for the RCIA program or if they will be able to join the next confirmation class.
